After finding no commercial machines available to produce edible cups, he invested in a corn-making machine from a supplier who claimed it could be adapted for biscuit cups. The machine, however, was a failure, and no cups could be produced. But rather than giving up, Mr. Varghese partnered with a trusted friend to remodel the machine and refine the process. It took nearly a year of trial and error to perfect both the equipment and the formula for producing the cups at a commercial scale.
